Nordic Trips

Nordic ski trips are set up by Art Anderson, our Nordic Coordinator and an expert cross country skier. Persons interested in signing up for Nordic trips may do so beginning October 21st at the Cheyenne Ski Club Chili Supper. Planning meetings for XC trips are held during the club meeting prior to the trip.  This allows everyone to get directions, arrange food purchases, carpooling and other details.

December 9 - Happy Jack Ski Area
This is the beginning ski season warmup and barbeque at Happy Jack Ski Area. If you are interested in learning how to Nordic ski, this would be a good trip for you to go on. There is no charge for skiing, but there is a parking fee of $5.00 per vehicle.. Ski rentals are available in Laramie.

December 30 to January 1 - New Year’s Weekend at Snowy Range
Buford Cabin near Centennial, WY, 20 miles west of Laramie, is the location for this trip. We will spend the weekend skiing the east side of the Snowy Range and celebrate New Year’s Eve at the cabin or in Centennial. Overnight lodging is at the Buford Foundation Cabin near the VeeBar Ranch for a nominal donation. Ski rentals are available in Laramie. Planning meeting is December 21.

January 26 to 28 - Snow Mountain Ranch
Located near Granby, CO, this facility is part of the YMCA of the Rockies and is near Winter Park and Mary Jane for those who like alpine skiing. Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center provides some of the best groomed ski trails in the Rockies. Lessons and ski rentals are available onsite. There is also a trail fee at this location. Cost for the weekend is $75 per person. Housing is in well-appointed vacation homes which hold 7 to 10 persons. Planning meeting is January 18.

February 16 to 19 - Michigan Lakes (Cameron Pass)
Skiers will be staying at the Michigan Lakes rustic cabins in the State Forest State Park and ski the excellent trail systems of the Colorado State Forest and Cameron Pass. Ski rentals are available in Fort Collins and Laramie. Cost for the weekend is $35 per person. Planning meeting is February 15.

March 9 to 11 - Columbine Cabins
This destination is located 30 miles northwest of Steamboat Springs. Skiers will be staying in cabins that once sheltered miners during the 1897 gold rush. Hahn’s Peak is nearby and is famous for teleskiing. There is also an excellent trail system at Steamboat Lake State Park for those who are not as adventurous (or crazy). Steamboat Springs Ski Area and Strawberry Park Hot Springs are also close by. Cost for the weekend will be approximately $65 to $70. Planning meeting is March 1.

March 30 to April 1 – Late Season Trip
If there is enough interest, I will plan another Nordic trip. Possible destinations include Leadville, Beaver Meadows and Snowy Range.
